Which Android TV boxes are relevant?
Every box running Android TV (or Google TV) works with an IPTV subscription. The most common models in Morocco:
- Nvidia Shield TV / Shield Pro: the most powerful processor on the market, ideal for 4K and high bitrates.
- Xiaomi Mi Box S / Mi TV Stick: excellent value for money, enough for Full HD and light 4K.
- T95, Tanix, X96 and generic boxes: widespread and affordable, provided you pick a recent model with at least 2 GB of RAM.
- Operator boxes (Maroc Telecom, Orange, inwi): often locked down and closed to third-party apps, mainly useful for the operator's own bundle.
In short: a dedicated Android TV box remains the best choice for daily IPTV use.
Why a dedicated box beats an old Smart TV
Old Smart TVs lack power: slow processor, little memory, apps no longer updated. The result is sluggish menus, no 4K decoding and buffering even on a good connection.
- A dedicated processor that decodes H.265 without stutter.
- Regular updates for the player and the system.
- An Ethernet port for a stable stream.
- A box you can replace for a few hundred dirhams, without changing your TV.
A modern Android TV box often costs less than a new screen and gives your TV ten more years of life.
Installing the app, step by step
You need your Xtream Codes credentials (server URL, username, password), sent at activation.
Nino Player (recommended) is our reference player for Android TV.
- Enable unknown sources: Settings → Security & restrictions → Allow apps from unknown sources (the wording varies with the Android TV version).
- Install from the Play Store: search for Nino Player and install it. IPTV Smarters Pro is also available.
- Or install via Downloader: install the Downloader app (Play Store), open it and enter code 2929561 for Android, then start the installation.
- Open the app and choose “Xtream Codes API” as the login method.
- Enter the credentials: the server URL (Host), the username and the password, exactly as received.
- Confirm: channels, VOD and the EPG guide load automatically.
First-run settings
A few settings make a difference from the very first use:
- Decoder: switch to H.265 (HEVC) if your box supports it; this reduces bandwidth and stabilises the picture. Hardware decoding (HW) is usually smoother than software (SW).
- Buffer: increase it slightly if the connection is unstable; keep the default on fibre.
- EPG / guide: refresh the guide to display the week's programmes.
- Subtitles and audio language: set them once and for all in the player settings.
- Display output: in 4K, make sure the box is set to 3840×2160 at 60 Hz.
Ethernet or Wi-Fi?
For your main screen, favour the Ethernet cable. It is the simplest step to remove micro-cuts, especially in 4K and during matches.
- Ethernet: stable speed and minimal latency, ideal for 4K and live sport.
- 5 GHz Wi-Fi: acceptable if the box is close to the router; avoid 2.4 GHz for 4K.
- Powerline adapters: a good alternative when a cable is not possible.
- Wi-Fi: still perfectly fine for a secondary box in a bedroom.
Remote and app tips
- Add an Android TV (Google TV) remote if your box does not have one, or use the manufacturer's mobile app.
- Pin your favourite channels in the player's favourites for one-click access.
- Create groups (sport, kids, news) so you do not search through 45,000 channels.
- Close background apps: this frees memory and makes navigation smoother.
- Turn off screen savers so the box does not sleep during a long match.
Troubleshooting common issues
- No sound: check the audio output (HDMI / PCM / passthrough) in the Android settings, then switch audio track if the stream offers several.
- Black screen: try another stream (HD instead of 4K), change the decoder (HW/SW) or fully restart the box.
- Buffering: lower the quality, raise the buffer, test over Ethernet and check that only one device is using the subscription.
- The app keeps closing: free up storage space, then uninstall and reinstall the player.
- Credentials rejected: re-enter the URL, username and password with no spaces, and check that the subscription is active.
With a properly configured box and a wired connection, IPTV becomes as simple as a classic set-top box, in HD and 4K alike.
